Lesson 1: Crypto vs fiat

3 questions
  1. What is 'fiat' money?

    Correct answerGovernment-issued money.

  2. What is the main difference between cryptocurrency and fiat money?

Correct answerCryptocurrencies are decentralised, fiat money controlled by a central authority.

  3. Who validates transactions on a blockchain?

Correct answerSpecial users called 'miners' or 'validators'.

Lesson 2: Cryptography

3 questions
  1. Why is cryptography important for cryptocurrencies?

Correct answerIt removes the need for a central authority, prevents double spending, and adds security.

  2. What is the difference between a public key and a private key?

Correct answerA public key is like your account number, and your private key is like your password.

    Why this is correct

Anyone can send to your public key; only the private key can spend from it – which is why it must never be shared.

  3. Which of the following statements is true?

Correct answerIt's impossible to work out someone's private key by looking at their public key.

Lesson 3: Blockchain

3 questions
  1. What is a blockchain?

    Correct answerA decentralised database.

  2. Who can view the blockchain?

Correct answerAnyone with a computer and internet connection can view the Blockchain.

  3. What makes a blockchain different from a regular database?

Correct answerIt isn't controlled by a central party and can be viewed by anyone.

Lesson 4: Risks

3 questions
  1. What regulatory protection does crypto have?

Correct answerNone. Crypto is unregulated in most countries around the world.

    Why this is correct

The course was written before the EU's MiCA rules applied; the quiz still expects the "unregulated in most countries" answer.

  2. What is the maximum amount you could lose?

Correct answerEverything – your investment could end up being worth nothing.

  3. When shouldn't you buy crypto?

Correct answerWhen you are in debt, or you cannot afford to lose the money invested.

All conditions

  • You must have finished Revolut crypto onboarding (accepting the crypto terms and risk warnings) before a completed lesson can pay out.
  • Crypto Learn is offered in the EEA, the UK, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Brazil; individual courses can be missing in some regions.
  • Each lesson pays out once per customer; you can retake a quiz as often as you like.
  • Rewards are limited and Revolut can change or remove them at any time.

Where to find the Crypto Basics course

Open the Revolut app, go to the Crypto tab, tap Discover and scroll to Learn. Tap See all for the full list. If the course does not appear, it is not offered in your country or has been retired. Crypto Basics usually sits at the top of the list because it is the entry course.

What the course is about

Lesson 1 compares cryptocurrency with government-issued money and explains who validates transactions. Lesson 2 covers public and private keys. Lesson 3 defines a blockchain as a decentralised database anyone can read. Lesson 4 is a risk warning: no regulatory protection in most countries, you can lose everything, and you should not buy with money you cannot afford to lose.

Why the reward is in DOT

The course was built with the Web3 Foundation, so rewards are paid in Polkadot’s DOT token rather than in a “basics” coin. Finishing it unlocks the Polkadot course, which has its own reward.

If your questions look different

Revolut shuffles answer options and occasionally rewords a question. Match the answer text rather than its position. If a question is completely new, the course has been updated – tell us and we will add it.

If the reward did not arrive

Wait up to two business days. Then check that you finished crypto onboarding before the lesson and that a reward was shown on the lesson card before you started. If the card showed no reward, the budget for this course is used up in your region.
