Lesson 1: Intro to Polkadot

3 questions
  1. What are the limitations of early blockchains like Bitcoin?

Correct answerSlow transaction speeds, high fees and incapability to communicate with other blockchains.

  2. What is Web 3.0?

Correct answerA new web built around decentralised technologies, where users have more control over their data.

  3. How does Polkadot address some of the limitations of earlier blockchains?

Correct answerIt allows multiple blockchains to communicate with each other and process transactions at the same time.

Lesson 2: How Polkadot works

3 questions
  1. What is a relay chain?

Correct answerA blockchain that links other blockchains and allows them to communicate

    Why this is correct

The relay chain is Polkadot's central chain; parachains plug into it and use it to talk to each other.

  2. What is a parachain?

Correct answerA blockchain that connects to the relay chain and runs alongside other parachains

  3. What issues do parachains and relay chains solve?

Correct answerThe inability of blockchains to communicate with each other

Lesson 3: Governance and treasury

3 questions
  1. Who can vote for new initiatives like network upgrades on the Polkadot network?

Correct answerPeople who hold Polkadot (DOT) tokens

  2. How is Polkadot's governance system different from some other popular blockchains?

Correct answerIt is governed by a community by vote

  3. What is Polkadot's 'On-Chain Treasury'?

Correct answerA collection of tokens that can be used to support projects that benefit the network

Lesson 4: The DOT token

2 questions
  1. What is staking your DOT tokens?

Correct answerHelp secure the network by temporarily locking DOT tokens in exchange for a reward in DOT tokens

  2. What is the 'bonding' of your DOT tokens?

Correct answerLocking up tokens in order to secure a slot for your parachain on the relay chain

    Why this is correct

Bonding locked DOT to win a parachain slot in the old auction system; the course still uses this definition.

Lesson 5: Uses of Polkadot

3 questions
  1. What are some use cases of Polkadot?

Correct answerNFTs, DeFi, powering smart cities

  2. How do Polkadot apps differ from the apps on your phone?

Correct answerPolkadot apps don't need to rely on a middleman to work, and can keep your data safer

  3. How do apps communicate on parachains?

    Correct answerVia the relay chain

Question wording may differ slightly from your app. Look for the answer text rather than the option's position.

Where to find the Polkadot course

Open the Revolut app, go to the Crypto tab, tap Discover and scroll to Learn. Tap See all for the full list. If the course does not appear, it is not offered in your country or has been retired. The Polkadot course unlocks after Crypto Basics.

What the course is about

Lesson 1 sets up the problem – slow, expensive blockchains that cannot talk to each other – and introduces Web 3.0. Lesson 2 explains the relay chain and parachains. Lesson 3 covers on-chain governance by DOT holders and the treasury. Lesson 4 defines staking and bonding. Lesson 5 lists use cases such as NFTs, DeFi and smart cities.

Two Polkadot courses

This is the original course. The later Polkadot Bonus course covers staking and interoperability in more depth and has its own reward.

If your questions look different

Revolut shuffles answer options and occasionally rewords a question. Match the answer text rather than its position. If a question is completely new, the course has been updated – tell us and we will add it.

If the reward did not arrive

Wait up to two business days. Then check that you finished crypto onboarding before the lesson and that a reward was shown on the lesson card before you started. If the card showed no reward, the budget for this course is used up in your region.
